Background of the Study
Private equity (PE) investment has emerged as a significant driver of growth for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially in tech-driven ecosystems like Yaba, Lagos, popularly known as "Yabacon Valley." PE investors often demand robust accounting systems to ensure transparency, proper fund utilization, and accurate financial reporting. These requirements influence SMEs to adopt advanced accounting tools and practices, thereby enhancing financial management. Despite the rapid growth of the tech ecosystem in Yaba, the extent to which PE investment impacts the accounting systems of these SMEs remains understudied.
Statement of the Problem
Tech SMEs in Yaba face challenges in maintaining efficient accounting systems due to limited resources and expertise. While private equity investment provides financial resources and strategic support, the influence of these investments on the enhancement of accounting systems is unclear. This knowledge gap undermines the understanding of how PE investors contribute to improving financial practices among tech SMEs.
